Prayer For Deceased Parents

O God, who commanded us to honor our father and our mother, in Your mercy have pity on the souls of my parents and forgive them their sins. May I see them again in the joy of everlasting brightness. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer For A Deceased Spouse

O heavenly Father, I am now in the shadow of great loneliness. My helpmate has been taken from me. Yet I submit in holy faith to Your divine will. I know that You love my spouse who, I pray, is now in heaven rejoicing with You. Grant me the strength I need to bear my present burdens, and help me to look for opportunities to seek out those less fortunate then myself. Keep me from feeling sorry for myself in my present condition, and keep my heart enflamed with love for You and for my neighbor, so that I can help to carry on Your work of love in this world. May I one day be reunited with my beloved spouse in heaven, where we both can worship You for all eternity. Amen.

Prayer For A Man Deceased

Incline Your ear, O Lord, to our prayers in which we humbly pray that You show Your mercy to the soul of Your servant (mention name here), whom you commanded to leave this world. Place him in the region of peace and light and bid him share the company of Your saints. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer For A Woman Deceased

O Lord, we beg of You, through Your loving kindness, have mercy on the soul of Your servant (mention name here), and now that she is set free from the defilements of this mortal flesh, restore her to her heritage of everlasting salvation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer For Our Relatives In Purgatory

Good Jesus, whose loving Heart was ever troubled by the sorrows of others, look with pity on the souls of our dear ones in purgatory. O you, who "loved your own," hear our cry for mercy, and grant those whom you called from our homes and hearts, may soon enjoy everlasting rest in the home of your love in heaven. Eternal rest, grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine on them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Prayer For Deceased Servicemen

O heavenly Father, have mercy on all who have made the supreme sacrifice of their lives and died in service to their country. We beg You to grant lasting peace to the world. Let all men realize that war is not what You wish for us, but peace and loving and forgiving hearts. Amen.

Prayer For Deceased Priests

O heavenly Father, Father of the great high priest, Your Son, Jesus Christ, we pray for the happy repose of all deceased priests. These men gave their lives to bring the love of Your Son to the world. Look kindly on them and give them a share of Your glory in heaven. We ask this in the name of Your Son, Jesus, our Lord. Amen.

Prayer After The Death Of A Child

O most sorrowful mother, Your only son was called the fairest of all the sons of men. You lost him in death on Calvary. Mary, my child is gone now too; in this earthly life I shall never see my dear one again. And still I would not have it otherwise, because I know that you and your Divine Son wished to take my child away young and pure and innocent before this world had cast the shadow of sin upon (mention name), I thank you, Mary, for the assurance that my child is safe with you.

Yet, dear Mother, I must carry on here below. I ask that strength and comfort which you alone can give. May I be worthy, like you, to be faithful to the end.

At the cross, your station keeping
Mournful mother, you stood weeping,
Close to Jesus to the last.
Mother of love, of sorrow, and of mercy,
Pray for us!

A Prayer for the Dying

Most Merciful Jesus, lover of souls, I pray You, by the agony of Your most Sacred Heart, and by the sorrows of Your Immaculate Mother, to wash in Your Most Precious Blood, the sinners of the world who are now in their agony, and who will die today.

Heart of Jesus, once in agony, have mercy on the dying. Amen.

A Prayer for a Happy Death

O God, who has doomed all men to die, but has concealed from all the hour of their death, grant that I may pass my days in the practice of holiness and justice, and that I may deserve to quit this world in the peace of a good conscience, and in the embrace of your love through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

In Loving Memory Of

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul; He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil; for thou art with me thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Amen.

Consecrating The Last Two Hours Of Our Life To The Most Holy Virgin

Prostrated at thy feet, and humiliated by my sins, but full of confidence in thee, O Mary! I beg thee to accept the petition my heart is going to make. It is for my last moments, Dear Mother I wish to request thy protection and maternal love so that in the decisive instant thou wilt do all thy love can suggest in my behalf.

To thee, O Mother of my soul, I consecrate THE LAST TWO HOURS of my life. Come to my side to receive my last breath and when death has cut the thread of my days, tell Jesus, presenting to Him my soul, "I LOVE IT." That word alone will be enough to procure for me the benediction of my God and the happiness of seeing thee for all eternity.

I put my trust in thee, my Mother and hope it will not be in vain.

O Mary! Pray for thy child and lead Him to Jesus!

All Souls Remembrance

Loving God, a candle burns in my heart and warms my soul. It never flickers. It never wanes. It is the memory of those I love (mention name) who are now at home with you. I ask you to keep them close to your heart. Keep them in the bright flame of your love.

As I prepare for my own journey, help me to understand death as but a doorway to new and eternal life. Amen.

Prayer to St. Benedict for a Happy Death

O Holy Father, St. Benedict, blessed by God both in grace and in name, who whilst rapt in prayer, with thy hands raised to heaven, didst most happily yield thy angelic spirit into the hands of thy Creator, and hast promised zealously to defend against all the snares of the enemy in the last struggle of death those who shall daily remind thee of thy glorious departure and thy heavenly joys; protect me, I beseech thee, O glorious father, this day and every day, by thy holy blessing that I may never be separated from our dear Lord, from the society of thyself and of all the blessed. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

De Profundis  (Memorial Prayer)

Out of the depths I have cried unto Thee, O Lord - Lord hear my voice! Let Thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication. If Thou, O Lord, shalt mark our iniquities, O Lord, who can abide it? For with Thee there is mercy, and by reason of Thy law I have waited for Thee, O Lord. My soul hath hoped in the Lord.  From morning watch even unto night, let Israel hope in the Lord. For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him is plentiful redemption. And He shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Prayers for a Good Death

O Lord Jesus, God of goodness, and Father of mercies, I draw nigh to Thee with a contrite and humble heart; to Thee I recommend the last hour of my life, and that judgment which awaits me afterwards.

Merciful Jesus, have mercy on me.

When my feet, benumbed with death, shall admonish me that my mortal course is drawing to any end,

Merciful Jesus, have mercy on me.

When my hands, cold and trembling, shall no longer be able to clasp the crucifix, and, against my will, shall let it fall on my bed of suffering,

Merciful Jesus, have mercy on me.

When my eyes, dim and troubled at the approach of death, shall fix themselves on Thee, my last and only support,

Merciful Jesus, have mercy on me.

When my lips, pale and trembling, shall pronounce for the last time Thy adorable name,

Merciful Jesus, have mercy on me.

When my face, pale and livid, shall inspire the beholders with pity and dismay; when my hair, bathed in the sweat of death, and stiffening on my head, shall forbode my approaching end,

Merciful Jesus, have mercy on me.

When my ears, soon to be forever shut to the discourse of men, shall be open to that irrevocable decree which is to fix my doom for all eternity,

Merciful Jesus, have mercy on me.

When my imagination, agitated by dreadful spectres, shall be sunk in an abyss of anguish; when my soul, affrighted with the sight of my iniquities and the terrors of Thy judgments, shall have to fight against the angel of darkness, who will endeavor to conceal Thy mercies from my eyes, and plunge me into despair,

Merciful Jesus, have mercy on me.

When my poor heart, oppressed with suffering and exhausted by its continual struggles with the enemies of its salvation, shall feel the pangs of death,

Merciful Jesus, have mercy on me.

When the last tear, the forerunner of my dissolution, shall drop from my eyes, receive it as a sacrifice of expiation for my sins; grant that I may expire the victim of penance; and then, in that dreadful moment,

Merciful Jesus, have mercy on me.

When my friends and relations, surrounding my bed, shall be moved with compassion for me, and invoke Thy clemency in my be behalf,

Merciful Jesus, have mercy on me.

When I shall have lost the use of my senses, when the world shall have vanished from my sight, when my agonizing soul shall feel the pangs of death,

Merciful Jesus, have mercy on me.

When my last sighs shall force my soul from my body, accept them as signs of a loving impatience to come to Thee,

Merciful Jesus, have mercy on me.

When my soul, trembling on my lips, shall bid farewell to the world, and leave my body lifeless, pale, and cold, receive this separation as a homage, which I willingly pay to Thy Divine Majesty, and in that last moment of my mortal life,

Merciful Jesus, have mercy on me.

When at length my soul, admitted to Thy presence, shall first behold the splendor of Thy Majesty, reject it not, but receive me into Thy bosom, where I may forever sing Thy praises; and in that moment when eternity shall begin for me,

Merciful Jesus, have mercy on me.

Let us pray.

O God, who has doomed all men to die, but hast concealed from all the hour of their death; grant that I may pass my days in the practice of holiness and justice, and that I may be made worthy to quit this world in the peace of a good conscience and in the embrace of Thy love. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee. O Refuge of sinners, O Mother of those in their agony, forsake us not in the hour of our death, but obtain for us perfect sorrow, sincere contrition, remission of our sins, a worthy reception of the most holy Eucharist, the strengthening power of the Sacrament of Anointing; that we may present ourselves without fear before the throne of that Judge who is both Just and Merciful, our God and our Redeemer. Amen.

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I give you my heart and my soul.
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, assist me in my last agony.
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, may I breathe forth my soul in peace with you.

A Prayer for the Dead

Almighty, Everlasting God, who hast dominion over the living and the dead, and showest mercy unto all whom Thou knowest will be Thine by faith and works: we humbly beseech Thee that they for whom we have resolved to pour forth our prayers, whether this present world still detain them in the flesh, or the world to come hath already received them stripped of their bodies, may, by the grace of Thy fatherly love, and through the intercession of all the Saints, obtain the remission of all their sins. Through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

O Lord, hear my prayer.
And let my cry come unto Thee.
May the Almighty and merciful Lord graciously hear us.
And may the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
